Well ladies and gentlemen it is time to take those vehicles you donít mind getting dirty off the road. The ACE Wildflower raid is all set to go, departing Saturday September 29 2001. It is just over 250km on the blacktop to just past Merredin, when the fun starts. For those of you who have not seen the rabbit proof fence, by the end of this run you will not want to see it again. 50km up the rabbit proof fence and turn right down Elachbutting Road and meander through the Elachbutting Nature Reserve. It is important to note at this stage that there are legs of this run that have not been surveyed and others that have not been surveyed for two years. Generally all road conditions are challenging and are low speed affairs. Up we travel past the Hamersley Lakes and Mount Jackson, through some abandoned gold mines and up a track to Diemels. There is plenty of spare time to stop and look at any points of interest. The first night will be a bush camp.

After Breakfast we continue the trek to Diemals, then travel fairly much direct west for 150km till we hitÖÖ the vermin proof fence. This stretch of track includes points of interest like granite rocks and gnamma holes. Again we would be looking at a second bush camp some where along this route. The locations of the bush camps are dependant on how far we have travelled, though ideally we would be looking to set up camp around 4.00p.m. each day to leave time for socialising and exploring the area. This is not a strict run and exploration is the name of the game.

For those of you who want to see some excellent examples of outback flora and fauna, this time of the year in the past has provided endless amazement. At times it has proved difficult to avoid collision with kangaroos emus and cattle, though the wildflowers truly amazed.

We travel back through the Karroun Hill Nature Reserve and back on to the blacktop for a refuel at Koorda. The fuel station will be closed however we will organise the owner to open to refuel our convoy.
The run is limited to a dozen vehicles so please confirm your position as soon as possible. There is no restriction on type of vehicle, and any spare places will be offered to the 4WD club.
Requirements for the trip will be food and shelter for three days and two nights, (the long weekend). Full tank of fuel and 20l spare for a 2CV. The run is 250km on blacktop, 500 km on dirt and 100km on blacktop to Koorda and 300kmon the blacktop to home.
